My Guilty Pleasures

So a good friend of mine and a lovely helpful blogger, Karen from Missing Sleep has just tagged me in my first bloggers’ tag called Mummy’s Guilty Pleasures.

Being a mum is hard work! You don’t get days off or sick pay and you’re on-call 24/7. So we all need our little Guilty Pleasures to get through the day. Some little treat to reward yourself when the kiddies are finally settled in bed!

In case you don’t know what a “tag” is, which I didn’t until I was tagged in one. It’s just a fun little “getting to know you” post. We’re asked some questions by the blogger who nominated us and then we nominate another blogger we’d like to hear the answers from.

So here you go, my Guilty Pleasures!

Who is your guilty pleasure musical artist?

I’ve always liked Bon Jovi. In fact, I can remember exactly which album and song and where I was when I got hooked. I was 16 years old and doing some work experience in a nursing home in a nearby town. I was bored on the train so I stole a tape from my brother and it happened to be Bon Jovi – Crossroads, his greatest hits. I fell in love with all his songs, especially the new one that was out at the time. Always! I love hearing the kids joining in with the songs when I have the CD blasting from the car stereo and I love that if you asked them who my favourite artist was, they all respond “Bon Jovi)

What is your guilty pleasure song?

That would be my favourite song. “I don’t wanna miss a thing” by Aerosmith. I love the words as it sums up exactly how I feel lying there watching my babies sleep!

Who is your guilty pleasure TV star?

This is a hard one. I love David Tennant as the 10th Doctor in Doctor Who. I also love Hook from Once Upon A Time. If I had to choose between them, I would have to say, David Tennant, as he is such a versatile actor and I’ve loved him in everything I’ve seen. There is one other person, and this is totally a guilty pleasure and I don’t know whether to admit to it. Ok, back in the 90s I fell in love with a little program starring Dean Cain. It was “Lois and Clark, the New Adventures of Superman”. I remember having posters all over my room! Two years ago we caught him on Supergirl, playing Jeremiah Danvers, Supergirl’s adoptive father, and it made me want to watch Lois and Clark again. Re-watching the show got my 4-year-old obsessed with Superman aka Dean Cain and for the last two year, he has tweeted Happy Birthday to her!

What is your guilty pleasure TV show?

This is a hard one. I’ve loved so many over the years. Bones, Castle, Once Upon a Time, Supergirl, The Flash, NCIS, CSI, Silent Witness, Broadchurch. I think the one I would have to choose is an old one that I’ve recently gotten back into, only because I know I have watched each episode more than once and I always feel sad when I get to the end of their four-season run. That show was Lois and Clark. I guess I loved the premise that Superman was Clark’s secret identity as the movies all make it the other way round. I love the feisty Lois Lane who wouldn’t be left behind, the storyline between them and the chemistry. Clark Kent became my ideal man (and not because he was Superman). The movies just don’t come close to the image of Superman that the TV show gave you or the character development.

Who is your guilty pleasure film actor/actress?

I’d have to say, Will Smith. I also want to know how he doesn’t seem to have aged in the last 30 years! I also like Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock

What is your guilty pleasure film?

I can’t just choose one movie! There’s too many I’ve enjoyed. So to narrow it down I will say my favourite movie of 2017 which was Beauty and the Beast. I loved how it stayed true to the classic Disney movie, I loved all the new songs and changes. And once I stopped expecting Emma Watson to pull out a wand! I enjoyed the main cast. We actually went to a Brownie screening with my daughter’s Brownie troop and I loved seeing a heroine who can look after herself.

What is your guilty pleasure meal?

Homemade lasagne. I actually enjoyed making it as well as enjoying eating it. Sadly the kids don’t like it so we don’t have it as often as I’d like.

What is your mummy’s guilty pleasure snack?

I used to be a chocoholic, but recently my tastes have changed (I’m sure my diabetes is grateful) and I seem to prefer crisps at the moment.

What is your guilty pleasures drink?

Usually, white wine although I do enjoy the occasional glass of Malibu and coke or Baileys.

What is your mummy’s guilty pleasures book or magazine?

Books, definitely books. I admit I’m a bookworm and I’m pleased to see my 11-year-old is the same. She just discovered Harry Potter and I love sharing my love of those books with her. At the moment I’m enjoying fan fiction. I discovered it quite by accident when I was looking for information on the TV show Lois and Clark and found over 4,000 fanfic stories. Some of them are absolutely amazing as they take the characters you know so well and put them in different scenario’s to see how they’d cope. I love that there seems to be a whole community who are supporting each other and their writing. Most importantly though, I love that because they are fans of the show themselves, they understand the characters and make them even more believable. I’m currently reading them by authors and I’m up to the letter J. I strongly suggest that if you have a show you love, have a look and see if they have any fanfic sites, you won’t regret it!

So there you go, my guilty pleasures.

I’d love to know yours as well, so feel free to comment below or even join in this bloggers tag.

As I don’t really know many bloggers at the moment, I won’t nominate anyone. But feel free to join in the tag if you want to and link back so I can give your guilty pleasure’s a read as well! Don’t forget to use #MummysGuiltyPleasures on Twitter
